Ski & Snowboard News / Deer Valley snow is excellent but reservoir is low

People often ask me: "Is there any skiing up there in the mountains?" The answer is definitely "yes." I skied Deer Valley a couple days ago and conditions are lovely with full snow coverage and excellent grooming. In addition, the resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon, where the elevation is even higher, have excellent snow even though there's none in our yards.

But looking down from Deer Valley at the Jordanelle Reservoir was both beautiful and frightening. The water level is very low. There's a definite contrast: good snow on the mountain for skiing but the water level of the lake below is very low. It raises the question: Will there be enough run off to fill the reservoir?

This is a desert and there is a finite supply of water. This is a good time to pose the question: How I can cut my water usage before warm weather arrives and the need for water increases. What can I do to help?
