Local author shares secrets to a happy marriage

You could say Carma Sirrine knows a thing or two about marriage. This mother of eight has been married to her husband Gordon for 52 years.

At 75, Sirrine decided she wanted to write a book to help married couples today achieve a happy marriage. She figured all they needed to know were the 10 secrets she has learned to live by. So her book is titled "10 Secrets for a Happy Marriage." And Sirrine says it's just that simple.

"In 1999 my husband and I went on a senior mission to the Philippines," she said. "We realized how lucky we were to know such a great group of senior missionaries. From that experience, seeing the love and devotion, I just needed to write something about it."

Sirrine has compiled 90 true stories of married couples that are integrated into her book of 10 chapters on different topics, such as 'Rely on the Lord,' Making Loving Relationships,' and 'Money Matters.' Through these stories, readers will glean tried and true relationship advice that has stood the test of time.

"I hope people will be able to change their life for the better after reading this," Sirrine said. "I hope they will find ideas and inspirations to change for the best."

Sirrine grew up in Wellington, Utah. She always enjoyed writing and wrote for the school magazine and newspaper while in college at Carbon Junior College in Price. She worked as a secretary until she married her husband Gordon and then became a stay- at- home mom for 23 years. The couple built their home in Sandy 38 years ago, with Gordon doing much of the work himself as a trained engineer.

Sirrine stays active tending her grandchildren three days a week. When time permits, she enjoys reading and working in her large garden.

"10 Secrets for a Happy Marriage" is Sirrine's first book and was published by Cedar Fort Publishing in Springville. It can be purchased at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Borders.
