Three great romanticists to be highlighted at American West Symphony concerts
The American West Symphony, conducted by Joel Rosenberg, will present two concerts in the Good Shepherd Church at 8600 South and 700 East in Sandy on Friday and Saturday March 4 and 5 at 8 p.m.
The concerts will feature works by Dvorak, Tschaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. Antonin Dvorak was born near Prague in what is currently the Czech Republic but at the time of his birth was known as Bohemia. He was influenced by the simple beauty of folk music from his native country which he incorporated in his works. While living and composing in the United States he drew the same influence from American spirituals.
Hear the titanic and powerful Fourth Symphony of Tschaikovsky which he described as showing how life seems to alternate between hard reality and quickly passing dreams and visions of happiness. And listen to "Scheherezade" as she weaves her tales and stories in the "Thousand and One Nights."
In addition, selections from the music for the movie "Schindler's List" by John Williams will be presented. The violin soloist for these selections is Kelly Richardson, a violinist, composer, pianist, and organist who has appeared as a violin soloist and conductor with several orchestras.
