Utah Film Center: FIGHT CLUB

Free film screening: FIGHT CLUB (Two restless men fight the banality of life with violent unorthodoxy)

Utah Film Center is excited to announce our upcoming screening of Fight Club on Wednesday, October 5th at 7pm at the City Library downtown location. One of the most iconic films of the late 90s, Fight Club’s exploration of toxic masculinity and consumerism in America left some moviegoers inspired by its bravado and others outraged at its blatant displays of male violence. Please join us for the screening and stick around afterward for a post-film conversation about Fight Club’s legacy and toxic masculinity with a professor from University of Utah’s film department and KUER’s RadioWest host Doug Fabrizio.

Presented as part of our Through the Lens series, which for 2022 features a collaboration with the University of Utah’s Department of Film and Media Arts to present an extended exploration of what many Film Lovers regard as the “Classic Films” in cinematic history. The post-film discussion will ask the question “Why is this film a classic and who is it a classic for?”

SYNOPSIS

A depressed man (Edward Norton) suffering from insomnia meets a strange soap salesman named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and soon finds himself living in his squalid house after his perfect apartment is destroyed. The two bored men form an underground club with strict rules and fight other men who are fed up with their mundane lives. Their perfect partnership frays when Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), a fellow support group crasher, attracts Tyler’s attention.
