Altara Elementary students eagerly double-checked their shoelaces before dashing after the Sandy Police motorcade along the half-mile fun run course. The race ended back at the school’s playfield, where students enjoyed water, snacks, music and sidewalk chalk fun to celebrate their accomplishment.

The event marked the finale of a three-week PTA fundraiser supporting school field trips. The effort exceeded expectations, raising $11,911 and surpassing the original $10,000 goal.

“It's all for field trips and then if we have extra, we were going to do some school assemblies for students,” said Altara Assistant Principal Sara Caldwell. “As we were raising money, students got to have different experiences; we gave each student a little stuffed pet they can keep at their desk. That was a hit.”
